On the occasion of the 75th year of Indo-Austrian international ties, PM Narendra Modi visited Austria to strengthen mutual ties on various frontiers. One key event that happened along the course of this visit was Modi’s interaction with Mr. Anton Zeilinger, a distinguished Austrian physicist known for his groundbreaking work in quantum mechanics on Wednesday, the 10th of July.

Zeilinger was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2022 for his pioneering experiments with entangled photons, which established the violation of Bell inequalities and paved the way for the field of quantum information science.

Anton Zeilinger, born on May 20, 1945, in Ried im Innkreis, Austria, is affiliated with the University of Vienna and the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. His Nobel-winning work has significantly advanced our understanding of quantum mechanics and has laid the foundation for numerous technological innovations.

He has done monumental work in the field of quantum teleportation. He was also among the first to actually transport quantum particles across a space of 144km. He proved that all the hypotheses of quantum physics and quantum mechanics were correct, thus paving way for more research on quantum computers, quantum teleportation, quantum networks and quantum encrypted communication.

He has also written a book-“Dance of the Photons-From Einstein to quantum teleportation”, which provides a playful, yet stunning information on the scope of quantum systems and why Einstein was wrong about reality.

He has indeed played a crucial role in spearheading the quantum revolution across the globe.
